The Universal Reality Combat Championships (URCC) is the longest-running mixed martial arts promotion in the Philippines and in Asia, and the first professional mixed martial arts event based in the Philippines. As its inaugural fight as URCC Global to be held at Smart Araneta Coliseum on September 29, 2018, the organization features Filipino-American Mark "Mugen" Striegl (Philippines) vs. "The Undead" Do Gyeom Lee (Korea) as its main event.
Striegl and Lee had a heated staredown and trash talk during the presscon held at Anabelle's restaurant in Quezon City as they promised to destroy each other in the cage come Saturday.
Mark Striegl (Philippines)
Founded by Filipino Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belter Alvin Aguilar, the URCC started the mixed martial arts trend in the Philippines with its inaugural event at the Casino Filipino Ampitheater in ParaƱaque City on November 23, 2002, and has since become the breeding ground for world-class Filipino fighters who have charted their own respective legacies in the global MMA arena.
This year, URCC marks its foray towards global domination in MMA with the creation of URCC Global, spearheaded by its new chairman, Arnold Vegafria.
Do Gyeom Lee (Korea)
This Colossal fight features some of the country's best MMA fighters, including four (4) female fighters and a three-on-three match up (Philippines vs. Korea).
How does the 3-versus-3 being done? Aguilar explains, "When one person gets tapped out, knocked out, or submitted, we stop the time. We take him out the ring, so it becomes 3 versus 2. It becomes 'winner take all.' Later on, when it becomes 3 versus 1, the one left has the option to tap out, leave the cage or fight the 3. So it's up to him to do it."
