The Likhaan: UP Institute of Creative Writing’s (ICW) Panayam Lecture Series returns this month with “PAGSULAT PARA SA MASA: ISANG BALIK- AT TUNGONG-TANAW SA ISANG PAG-IBIG” by award-winning writer/critic and College of Mass Communications Dean Dr. Rolando B. Tolentino. The lecture will be held at the Claro M. Recto Hall, Faculty Center on March 6, 2013, 2:30 p.m.
In this lecture, Dr. Tolentino will look back on and discuss the Marxist idea of writing for the masses, and why it continues to be an ideal stand for writers. According to Dr. Tolentino, “The writer’s work is solitary—his/her material drawn from the self; his/her greatest and worst critic, him/herself—the writer is narcissistic and thus, writing a work of narcissism To look outside of the self, to points of view outside of the self is the writer’s way of addressing his public.”
The lecture will also look at notion of writing for the masses as a kind of love.
This lecture is open to the public.
