Tanghalang Pilipino's "Walang Sugat" at CCP (August 16-26, 2012)

Tanghalang Pilipino, Cultural Center of the Philippines' (CCP) resident theater company opens its 26th Theater season with Walang Sugat, the highly-acclaimed musical written by Severino Reyes. Catch its limited two-weekend-run from August 16-26, 2012 at the CCP Little Theater, and see how the multi-awarded film director Carlos Siguion-Reyna who took on his debut assignment for Philippine theater. Tanghalang Pilipino revives the 110-year-old Sarswela of Severino Reyes (Lola Basyang), which was first performed in Teatro Libertad in Manila in 1902, and now transforms it into a musical delight, heart-rending timely play on dying and lying for a beloved and for one's country.

Walang Sugat is a love story of Julia and Tenyong, of poetic proportions, which interweaves the personal with the national struggles and awakens the audience’s sense of heroism and patriotism.

Noemi Manikan-Gomez will essay the role of Juana, Julia's mother (to be portrayed by soprano stage actress Cris Villonco). In the musical play, she will do her best in persuading her daughter to marry someone of rich lineage as opposed to the man named Tenyong (played by Noel Rayos and Antonio Ferrer).
