Info from Globe Tattoo:
Bangon Pinoy, works hand in hand with Gawad-Kalinga’s Bayan-Anihan which is a food sufficiency program that puts food on the table of each GK family. Backed by a multi-sectoral partnership led by GK and the Department of Agriculture, this program empowers the poorest of the poor Filipinos to “put food on their own table” and say “Goodbye Gutom!”
Each family is trained on backyard farming and given a 10 sqm plot where vegetables for their own consumption are grown. On a larger scale, each GK Village has a communal farm where fruit-bearing trees, medicinal and culinary herbs and rootcrops are planted.
Globe Telecom has adopted 35 GK farms nationwide Since 2008.
On November 7, 2009, 70 Globe employee volunteers will be heading off to Concepcion, Tarlac to help affected families rebuild their farms.
Yes, they’re calling out to you young, able bodied citizens to join them on November 7, 2009 for a whole day over at GK Amalia, GK Hold USA and GK Ninoy Aquino in Brgy. Talimundok, Concepcion Tarlac. You’ll be replanting some trees, fixing perimeter fencing and fixing up the landscaping in the affected areas. You’ll also spend some time playing with the Gawad Kalinga kids.
They have reserved spots for 10 volunteers. Transportation will be arranged by Globe and will be available in two sites.
If you’re coming from Metro Manila, the pick up point will be at the Globe Telecom Plaza, at the corner of Pioneer and Madison Streets, Mandaluyong City. Departure is at 4:30AM sharp.
For volunteers in Central Luzon, the meet up point is at the Tarlac City Globe Business center.
It’ll be tough and tiring. But it will also be extremely rewarding. If you want to lend a hand and join them on this trip, please leave a comment here and on Globe Tattoo site using a valid email address and they will get in touch with you for further details.
