Running has become a personal passion. There are a number of marathon runs happening in different parts of the country. In Metro Manila alone, there are various running events being held every month and both running athletes and enthusiasts grow more and more each time. How about joining an international running event? adidas, a global leader in running, launched its very own Running Championship happening across Southeast Asia for 2011 titled the adidas ‘King of the Road’ (KOTR). Held in five countries across the region, the adidas KOTR will culminate in an ultimate championship race in its first ever host country, the Philippines, on October 23, 2011 at the Bonifacio Global City, The Fort in Taguig City.
The race will make its regional debut in Thailand (May 15), to be followed by Singapore (August 28), Indonesia (September 25), Malaysia (October 2), and the Philippines (October 23). It is aimed at bringing runners together from across the region as part of adidas’ commitment to the sport, to cultivate sporting habits and an active lifestyle.
This event is open to participants in 2 categories: (1) the Closed category (Men /Women) is for local participants and (2) the Open category (Men/Women) is for international participants. The winner of each of the other four countries’ Closed categories (Men / Women) will qualify for an all-expense paid trip to compete in the adidas KOTR Southeast Asia Championship in host country Philippines on October 23, 2011 with the race commencing from popular running hub Bonifacio Global City, The Fort, in a bid to be crowned the adidas Southeast Asia ‘King of the Road 2011.’
adidas KOTR, a race that has been held for over 10 years now, sports a new logo this year. KOTR will also feature a different theme each year, beginning with this year’s theme titled Colours. This is represented through the variety of different coloured adidas singlets participants will don, yet another first for KOTR this year. The multi-colour showcase is meant to demonstrate the vibrancy of the sports scene across Southeast Asia.
For this year’s KOTR, there will be 3 distance run categories: 5K, 16.8K (a new route offered this year), and 21K. The city race is targeted at everyone who has the undying passion for running - from a running enthusiast to the serious athlete.
“As a global leader in running, adidas is geared towards helping runners all over the world perform better with the introduction of products, technology, and platforms designed purely with a runner’s needs in mind. The adidas King of the Road Championship is meant for runners to challenge themselves and achieve personal breakthroughs,” said Marcus Chew, adidas Senior Manager, Brand Communications and Sports Marketing, Area Southeast Asia.
